Kinda spend y, but that seems to be the trend in this tourist city. The site were fairly roomy, the highway noise was fairly muted, and the showers were more than fairly in need of new shower heads. The campground is reasonable close to almost everything, which was nice. Not all sites are shaded, so if you visit in the warmer months, be sure to keep this in mind. We'd probably stay there again and get a back-in site.

All in all, this was a nice park. Our chief complaints were that the wash house near our site had neither heat nor hot water (the daytime temps were in the 50s, cold enough to make a person forget what they went into the wash house for in the first place). In addition, a camper in a much site at the other end of the lake had his music turned up so loud that it sounded like it was next door...and it was like that for most of the day. On the plus side, there were no city lights, no traffic noises, and each site seemed to have a good view of the lake. We had a pull-thru site, but would opt for the back-ins next time as they are shaded by trees and more directly on the lake.

We stumbled onto this park because we were aiming for Passport America campground Timber Ridge (which is in the same complex) but no one answered the phone. Matter of fact, the phone recording didn't even identify the number as that of a business, but we drove on into the place anyway. And what pleasant people! This is a pretty place, and while we did not avail ourselves of their amenities (at an extra $4pp), we were impressed with the staff's friendliness and willingness to help us find a spot. The staff allowed as how Horseshoe Trails is applying for PA membership, but don't have it yet. Apparently we weren't the first campers to encounter difficulty with Timber Ridge. We would stay here again in a heartbeat, at a discounted rate.

This is a fantastic place, if a person can handle the almost constant 30mph wind. The views are spectacular, the hiking is anywhere from easy to challenging, and the sites for equestrian camping are first-rate (although w/o electricity). The staff is the best you'll find anywhere: friendly, informative, helpful, and full of that West Texas personality. The restrooms were spotless, warm, and the hot water inexhaustible. The only negative (besides that cussed wind) were the bees and yellow jackets that came out when it warmed up and the wind died down. This park is maybe even prettier than Palo Duro, and doesn't have the crowds. If you're a Bob Wills fan, Turkey is about 10 miles away. Lubbock and Amarillo are approx. 2 hours away, but close enough for day-tripping to sights...and Caprock is a welcome refuge from city traffic. We've stayed here before, and will stay here again. And again!
